Mercutio

I’ve decided (based off of about 45 minutes of listening) that KUSC is actually a really good classical radio station. too bad it’s in LA (therefore, only available online).

about 2o min ago they were playing prokofiev’s first suite to his ballet ‘Romeo and Juliet’, which happens to be a really cool piece. the best part is the end when the horn comes out of nowhere to play a dirge for mercutio’s death. one of those moments where the emotion is very raw, giving the orchestra the opportunity to really milk the music for all it is worth. too bad the recording they chose to play flew through this section at like 2x speed… i felt pretty let down, not quite betrayed, because there was still some catharsis, but definately not up to its potential.

Is this really post worthy? eh, why not?

Too much dancing?

I was navigating a crowd the other day (leaving cheesecake factory) and there was a gap between 2 ppl that i wanted to squeeze through before they blocked the way out.

as i dove through there, the instinctual footwork that i ended up using was a ‘glide-hop-switch’ ala mazurka.

i wasnt sure if i should be happy or very, very sad…

phwaorg.

so, apparently this guy is going to talk through every single piece they play.

and they are playing good stuff!

wtf.

more on internet radio

so ive resorted to listening to internet radio again for more music variety. I switched to this random station in LA and they were doing this donation drive and were asking for money with the middle part of Holst’s Jupiter running in the background. A bit of a low blow i think since this is one of the most stirring passages of music im familiar with.

but then they stopped talking and the music continued. if only i could get the whole thing uninterrupted. or, i suppose, i could just get out my mp3 player…

also listened to a station in the uk. kinda funny listening to uk news, weather, and traffic. heh.

youve heard this before

Why is it so cold at work?!??!?

how am i supposed to get anything done when all i want to do is clasp my hands together and rub them for warmth???

or maybe thats the carpal tunnel talking. i really need a more ergonomic desk…

Glorious

I was listening to music today, and since ive already run most of my standard music into the ground, i decided to listen to my folder of dance music (ie, music to social dance to).

And I realized something. I enjoy a good swing tune. Swing dancing is a lot of fun, there is no doubt about that. But, as i listened to my waltz music I realized that I have really come to love a good waltz (perhaps an influence of opening?).

With waltz I find an opportunity to really connect with my partner and the music on a wholey different level. The way the world shrinks as you spin until only you and your partner sit at the very center, riding a magnificent piece of music. Swing is fun, but waltz can be glorious.
